My initial intuition is that someone is happy to the extent that they think and act from love, as opposed to selfishness. However, it seems like the motivation to act from love in thought and action cannot be one’s own emotional welfare (if you constantly scan your own emotional well-being, it seems to undermine it). If God is love, then the desire to do God’s desire and the ability to feel His love might provide one with the love and motivation to act in an ideal way. This is my initial belief though there are many things that I don’t understand.
